Hamilton gets away with incident during qualifying involving Norris

Lewis Hamilton is lucky, because the Briton will not receive a penalty after the incident during qualifying for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Hamilton drove unnecessarily slow on the track.
The FIA has tightened the rules around the so-called delta time after several times chaos was caused by drivers who drove too slowly over the track in the hope of catching a slipstream from another driver. Especially on tracks like Monza this has caused a lot of chaos in the past.
Also in Baku the drivers are obliged to stick to the delta. However, Hamilton tried to drive slower during Q2 of qualifying to ensure that a driver would overtake him. That way, the Briton could take advantage of a slipstream. However, the car behind him, the McLaren of Lando Norris, did not pass the Mercedes, but was held up considerably.
No penalty for Hamilton
The incident was noted by the stewards, but Hamilton got off scot-free. The FIA has decided not to give the seven-time world champion a penalty. The data shows that he kept to the delta after all.
