On the Saturday during a Formula 1 weekend everything revolves around qualifying and it's no different in Canada. The teams and drivers have had three free practice sessions and hope to have found the perfect set-up for the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.

Leclerc or Verstappen?

It takes some adjusting, but qualifying in Canada only starts at 21:00 BST. Max Verstappen started his Canadian weekend very strongly and therefore also seems to be one of the favorites to take pole position, but you should never write off qualifying beast Charles Leclerc. Although Leclerc can take pole on Saturday, the Monegasque knows that he will certainly not start from P1 on Sunday. Leclerc has received a grid penalty of ten places.

It's been a while since Verstappen last obtained a pole position, namely during the Grand Prix of Emilia Romagna at Imola. The Dutchman would therefore be keen to break Leclerc's pole series. The Monegasque took the last four poles.

Surprises and possible rain

Fernando Alonso has been close to the Red Bull Racing and Ferrari drivers all weekend and looks set for perhaps a second row on the grid. The same goes for Sebastian Vettel. George Russell, Pierre Gasly and both McLarens are also coming on strong in Canada.

The weather in Canada is still changeable. On Thursday there were heavy showers over the track, while both sessions on Friday were dry. Can the rain still play a role in qualifying?
