F1 LIVE | The second free practice for the Austrian Grand Prix
- GPblog.com
Normally, Saturdayminated by the third free practice, but this is not th's first session is doe case in Austria due to the sprint race that will be run. The Formula One drivers will prepare for a 60-minute second free practice session to find the best race set-up for the rest of the weekend at the Red Bull Ring.
Liveblog: FP2
At 11:30pm UK time, the teams get their last chance to find the best set-up. The possibilities are limited, however, as the cars are already in parc fermé. Qualifying has already taken place on Friday, so the use of new parts is not permitted. This means that only certain parts that are not parc fermé, such as the front wing, can be tinkered with.
Mainly long runs in FP1
We will only see long runs in the second free practice. So it is mainly about doing kilometres and not so much about the timesheet. That part was already done by Max Verstappen in qualifying. He set the fastest time by going 29 thousandths of a second faster than Charles Leclerc to take his sixteenth pole position of his Formula One career.
The presence of a sprint race this weekend in Spielberg suits some drivers very well. Lewis Hamilton has to start from ninth after a crash in Q3, while Sergio Perez has to limit the damage from P13. Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo, fifteenth and sixteenth respectively, also have a better car than their qualifying results suggest.
