Mick Schumacher had a difficult start to the season and there were even rumours that the German had to get his first World Championship points before the summer break. Otherwise his partnership with Haas F1 would come to an end. He now has twelve points and fifteenth place in the world championship. Will this be enough for a place in next year's championship?

Schumacher left no stone unturned against Mazepin in his debut year last season. However, in the first Grands Prix of 2022, the 23-year-old driver consistently lost out to team-mate Kevin Magnussen: the Dane who began his second era in Formula One almost without preparation. On top of that, Schumacher wrote off his entire car twice, in Saudi Arabia and Monaco.

Schumacher gets in better shape

That Haas F1's car was fast enough was proven by the fact that Magnussen had already scored more than a dozen points. Schumacher, however, couldn't put it together and so everyone began to doubt his capabilities. In the last two Grands Prix it finally seemed to come out.

In Great Britain, Schumacher came eighth. A fine performance, although it must be said that there were six DNFs recorded in that race. In the sprint race at the Red Bull Ring he was just one place short of scoring points (finishing ninth), but one day later he managed to finish an excellent sixth.

Schumacher's departure 'no fun for anyone

Schumacher's departure would be a story Ferrari and Formula 1 would rather not write. After all, he is and always will be the son of record champion Michael and there is little more painful than being 'sent away'. Haas F1 is pretty much the only option for Schumacher, as Ferrari has no room and Alfa Romeo Racing has top talent Theo Pourchaire under contract. But then again, Haas F1 has its ambitions too.

The question is whether Schumacher still/again fits into that picture. What do you think of the statement: Schumacher has secured a seat in 2023 thanks to his sixth place. Was his sixth place on Sunday good enough to be able to sign a new contract with the American team? Fill in the poll and join the discussion in the comments.
