Charles Leclerc finally managed to regain victory in last weekend's Austrian Grand Prix after many reliability issues and strategic errors. According to Dutch media, Max Verstappen was lucky to finish second. Leclerc has not given up on the title.

The Telegraph

According to The Telegraph Verstappen was lucky with his second position. Without Carlos Sainz's engine failure, Leclerc could have closed the gap on the Dutchman. "It didn't seem to be a question of whether Max Verstappen would win again, but just how big his lead would be. That thought proved a little optimistic, to say the least."

"In Spielberg on Sunday, Ferrari were clearly the better team. Verstappen was lucky that Carlos Sainz crashed out with an engine failure, otherwise third place would probably have been the best we could achieve. But that team [Red Bull] has proven it can perform under pressure. Something that remains to be seen with Ferrari. And Verstappen knows that his car will normally improve a lot more. Also in that respect Red Bull has a reputation to uphold."

Algemeen Dagblad

Leclerc took his first win since the Australian Grand Prix. "But more importantly for the Ferrari driver, who constantly whined about problems with his car in the final laps, it was that he finally beat Verstappen again at Red Bull's home circuit. It could be the prelude to a championship in which there is still some excitement," he said. Algemeen Dagblad.

"But now that Verstappen himself has had the most dominant and reliable car in Formula 1 for a while, he was defeated in front of so many Dutch people. And that was not even the only blemish on the orange-coloured weekend in Spielberg."

De Volkskrant

"Leclerc takes revenge in Austria on fragile-looking Verstappen," reads the headline of De Volkskrant. Thousands of Dutch fans had travelled to the Red Bull Ring hoping to witness a Verstappen victory, but nothing was further from the truth. "No less than 50 thousand Dutch people had travelled to Austria to see the almost annual event: Max Verstappen ruling the circuit where he has already won four times. They were served something else on Sunday. For the first time in months the reigning champion looked vulnerable and at the same time his Ferrari-rival Charles Leclerc showed with the race win that he has not given up the title."

De Limburger

De Limburger thinks Leclerc will now slowly make his way back into the championship. "Charles Leclerc has revived his chances of winning the Formula One world title midway through the season. Max Verstappen was unable to treat his fans to the ultimate celebration in Austria. Ferrari driver Leclerc was simply too fast for the Limburger. The Red Bull Racing driver therefore had to defend tooth and nail against Leclerc. Verstappen was able to catch up with Leclerc, but the gap was too big to cause any danger."

NOS

Verstappen was the big favourite for victory in Austria, but Ferrari was, with some surprise, a lot faster in Spielberg. According to the NOS Verstappen is lucky that Leclerc only managed to catch up with him by a small margin.

"After the aerodynamic problems in England last week, Verstappen was again let down by his car, but managed to limit the damage with a second place and the fastest lap. He did so thanks to some good fortune, as he seemed to be losing out to both Ferraris for a long time. But suddenly Carlos Sainz's engine failed, the Spaniard's car caught fire and the situation changed."
