Verstappen: "Would be very sad if drivers have to miss races because of it"

We have already seen several drivers unable to compete in Formula 1 because of a corona infection. The infection rate is rising again, so the chance that one of the twenty drivers will get infected is increasing. Max Verstappen hopes that COVID-19 will be kept at bay.
According to the 24-year-old Dutchman, it would be a doomsday scenario if drivers were to miss Grand Prix. Especially with the exciting battle for the world championship you do not want to spend a weekend at home in front of the television. Lewis Hamilton does not want to take the risk and still does all his media sessions with a mouth mask on. Most other drivers, like Verstappen, do not.
"Everyone has their own preferences," Verstappen said at the press conference attended by Crash.net and others . The reigning world champion is conscious of it himself, but chooses not to always go for a mouth mask. "If you stay somewhere for 5-10 minutes it’s not too bad, but if you stayed in a closed-off area with people who are not tested? It is a different story. It would be very sad if drivers have to miss races because of it.”
Infections on the rise
Last year the measures in the paddock were very strict, but now there is a lot more possible. It raises the question of whether the FIA should not return to the strict rules of last season. For now, the governing body is faithfully following the rules of the local authorities. Hopefully that will be enough!
