McLaren introduces most updates: 'Keep the positive momentum going'

McLaren will take the biggest package of updates of all the teams for the French Grand Prix. The British team is in a shared fourth place with Alpine, so McLaren wants to strike back with big upgrades.
"It's important to keep the positive momentum going", Seidl tells Auto, Motor und Sport. According to the team boss, the team should achieve fourth place in the constructors' championship this season. That spot, however, is under threat from Alpine. The team of Esteban Ocon and Fernando Alonso has introduced a number of updates that have brought them closer to McLaren.
The upgrades for the MCL36 in France are mainly to provide more downforce. Amongst other things, changes are being made to the floor and the team is introducing new side pods. In Austria, Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo both finished in the points. With more consistent results and the new upgrades, Seidl believes his team can beat Alpine.
McLaren wants to compete with Alpine
"That's what we missed [the consistency]. Our performance fluctuated too much. Alpine has caught up with us in the last few races with some upgrades and is more stable. The upgrades are a step in the right direction in terms of downforce, but it is difficult to solve all the problems at once", says the McLaren team boss.
