Halo saves driver for the first time in Formula 2!
- Nicolás Quarles van Ufford
The halo might have saved a driver from a serious injury for the first this weekend, as Formula 2 driver Tadasuke Makino was saved by the carbon fibre bar when he crashed at the Circuit de Catalunya!
Makino came into contact with fellow Honda development driver Nirei Fukuzumi at the Circuit de Catalunya, where the Formula 2 race took place only hours before the actual Grand Prix of Spain.
We have seen the halo come into use for the first time to protect a driver!

Tadasuke Makino may have been spared serious injury in a crash with Nirei Fukuzumi in the #F2 race in Barcelona.#F1 #SpanishGP pic.twitter.com/YnF6Z3ppRk
As you can see in the picture, as Makino's halo is clearly marked and slightly damaged after the incident, but both drivers walked away from the collision without any injuries.
Makino said that he didn't see his rival approaching him as everything was happening so fast.
These photos below of the Russian Time car Makino was driving suggest that the Japanese was lucky to walk away unscathed.
