Seidl sees "shared challenge" after confirming Ricciardo will leave McLaren
Andreas Seidl acknowledges McLaren and Daniel Ricciardo had "shared challenges" during their time together. McLaren confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that the Australian will leave following the conclusion of the 2022 Formula 1 season.
Failed partnership
Ricciardo arrived at McLaren with high hopes but it was a partnership that never worked out. For various reasons, Ricciardo couldn't match his teammate Lando Norris and there was speculation over his seat for much of the 2022 season. Despite that speculation and poor results, teammate boss Seidl always made it clear that Ricciardo was in their plans for next season as the contract suggested.
However, it turns out that Ricciardo will leave the team after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. His team boss thanked Ricciardo in his first comments and highlighted Ricciardo's fight to solve the issues.
"Despite the shared challenges, he has always turned up with a fighting spirit and positivity and helped the entire team to always keep pushing forward. We will never forget that memorable race win in Monza which was a great boost for the whole team. We still have an important battle in the Constructors’ Championship ahead of us for the remainder of the season and we look forward to battle this out with Daniel and Lando," Seidl said.
