Domenicali outspoken about Andretti team's added value for Formula 1
- GPblog.com
Although Mario Andretti does not see how Formula 1 can still reject the American team, Formula 1 boss Stefano Domenicali sees no added value in the former world champion's team joining Formula 1.
Andretti, who was Formula 1 world champion with Lotus in 1978, would like to enter Formula 1 with his own team. He is therefore experiencing resistance not only from various team bosses from the highest racing class, but also from Domenicali.
Andretti treated the same as others
Domenicali told Motorsport.com that he believes there is no shortage of teams on the grid and that in the current situation an extra team would not be of value to Formula 1. He also states that not only the Andretti team has shown interest in joining, but that there are also parties that are less outspoken. All parties go through the same protocol and although Andretti speaks out loud and clear about the situation, Domenicali says that it is not personal towards the American but that all parties are treated and evaluated in the same way.
FIA makes decision
The final decision whether the American team or one of the other candidates may enter Formula 1 lies not with the Italian, but with the highest boss of motorsport, the president of the FIA Mohammed Ben Sulayem. He will assess whether all the requirements have been met and whether the application will be approved.
