Contracts Recognition Board to consider Piastri contract next week
- GPblog.com
McLaren and Alpine will be watching Formula 1's Contracts Recognition Board with great interest next week. That is when the Board will examine the contract of Oscar Piastri with the French racing team, as Autosport have heard behind the scenes.
Following Fernando Alonso's departure for Aston Martin, Alpine was quick to announce that Piastri would replace the Spaniard next season. The driver, however, was unaware of this and stated that he had no intention of racing for the team in 2023.
At the time, Piastri had reportedly already signed a contract with McLaren, which was keen to appoint him as Daniel Ricciardo's successor. According to the driver, Alpine had until the end of July to renew his contract and was therefore too late.
Alpine, however, has a different opinion, so it remains to be seen how the situation will develop. Formula 1 chooses to have the Contracts Recognition Board look at the contract and judge it.
Judgment may be delayed
At this moment it is unknown how long it will take the lawyers in the committee to come to an opinion. The committee will then pass on the advice to the FIA which eventually has to make a final decision. McLaren will hope that the decision will fall on the side of the British formation, but the team has no certainty at all.
