Alpine and McLaren stood before the FIA's Contract Recognition Board (CRB) on Monday afternoon as they both lay claim to the services of Oscar Piastri. The ruling is expected within days. But the chances of Piastri eventually sitting in the Alpine seem extremely small.

Although Alpine was the first to sign a contract with Piastri, it seems that the French do not want him in the cockpit in 2023. According to SkySports Pierre Gasly has become Alpine's candidate of choice. Red Bull has already been asked if the Frenchman can swap AlphaTauri for Alpine. With the right compensation, that would not be a problem.

That Alpine is nevertheless pursuing the case against McLaren and Piastri is purely for financial reasons. In recent years, Alpine has invested a lot in talent and for that, it wants to be compensated by McLaren. The latter team also has to pay Daniel Ricciardo, because his contract has been terminated.

If Gasly leaves AlphaTauri, there will be a vacancy at that team. It has already been reported that Red Bull has its eye on Colton Herta. The American is currently driving IndyCar for the Andretti team. A problem could be that he does not have a so-called super licence, which allows you to race in Formula 1.
