'Schumacher and Ferrari end partnership at end of 2022'
- GPblog.com
Mick Schumcher will no longer be part of the Ferrari Academy from 2023. Autosport.com reported this on Tuesday. According to the website, the 23-year-old German was under contract with the Italians until the end of this season, but there will be no new commitment. It means that Schumacher is free to go where he wants.
In the battle for a contract extension at Haas F1, Schumacher no longer has to count on any support from Ferrari. The American team was already convinced that it could choose its own line-up for 2023, but as Ferrari's team boss Mattia Binotto might have been able to put in a good word or offer a discount on the engines.
Autosport reports that it is believed in the paddock that Haas F1 will go for another driver. Antonio Giovinazzi is reportedly the main candidate to succeed Schumacher. Kevin Magnussen has already been confirmed for next season.
AlphaTauri or Alpine for Schumacher
Schumacher's future is uncertain. While the German entered Formula 1 thanks to Ferrari, he will now have to find his own way to get a contract somewhere. Now that Schumacher has no ties with Ferrari, a switch to AlphaTauri could be a possibility. Helmut Marko has already hinted that he is keeping an eye on the development of the talented driver.
For that to happen Yuki Tsunoda or Pierre Gasly would have to leave first. Alpine seems to be the second and last option for Schumacher. Fernando Alonso is leaving and his intended replacement Oscar Piastri seems, whether the court case is won or not, to be leaving for McLaren.
