Oscar Piastri and McLaren will be working together next season. While the driver is known as a great talent in motorsport, the Australian is facing an immense challenge where the risk of failure is considerable.

Where Alpine thought that it could appoint Piastri as successor of Fernando Alonso for next season, nothing was further from the truth. The rookie already seemed to have an agreement with McLaren, but Alpine did not leave it at that.

The French racing team fought for its rights, which turned out to be with Piastri. The driver could therefore do little about the commotion that arose in recent weeks, but the situation could make it pretty difficult for him next season.

The first year in Formula 1 is one that few drivers forget. For many drivers, the motorsport class is so challenging that they need time to get the most out of their performance. They cannot afford too much criticism, which is exactly what Piastri has to fear.

Piastri faces tough season

Next year's race will be all about Piastri's performance. Not only will he have to make sure Daniel Ricciardo, who is leaving at the end of the season, is forgotten, he will also have the challenge of proving himself. And that will not be easy.

It is commendable that Piastri decided to join McLaren at a good level straight away, but the risk of losing out is also great. In the coming months, he will have to prepare himself for 2023, in which he will face a lot of pressure from outside and will have to be close to the performance of teammate Lando Norris. Otherwise, he risks being left behind very quickly.
