Max Verstappen managed to set the fastest time in qualifying for the Dutch Grand Prix, securing pole position. Peter Windsor was impressed with the performance of the Dutchman, who he saw do something unique in the third free practice session.

"This morning he (Verstappen) did a really good job," he said on his YouTube channel about the training before qualifying. "Not only to get the setup right, but also, uniquely, to be the only guy to do a full-fuel run at the back end of FP3."

"Now, at the same time, other drivers were doing long runs, but not the Ferraris," Windsor continued. "George Russell was in the ‘15s which was a rather strange thing. They’re obviously not running a full load of fuel, well, if they were they’d be two seconds a lap faster than the Red Bull."

In qualifying, Verstappen proved to be a lot faster than Russell. The difference between the two drivers was almost eight tenths, so the Briton had to settle for sixth on the grid on Saturday afternoon. His teammate Lewis Hamilton will start from fourth on Sunday.

Russell no match for Verstappen

Russell commented after qualifying on a possible battle with Verstappen. According to the Mercedes driver it is virtually impossible to make things difficult for Verstappen at this stage of the season because the reigning world champion is in excellent form. He is therefore focusing on the other competitors.
