Nico Hulkenberg is according to Auto, Motor und Sport Hulkenberg is the favourite to win the seat at Haas in 2023. This would see him return to F1 after three seasons away, taking over from his fellow countryman Mick Schumacher.

Schumacher under pressure

Haas is one of the teams on the grid with a seat still available for 2023. Guenther Steiner says he is not in a hurry and will wait to see how the situation develops. Schumacher is the current driver of the American team and it cannot be excluded that his contract will be extended. In that case the son of Michael has to perform better.

There are a lot of bidders on the coast. With Daniel Ricciardo, an eight-time race winner has entered the market, but both parties are said to have doubts. Ricciardo would rather have a competitive seat in the sport and after the debacle at McLaren it remains to be seen how good the driver is that you bring in as a team?

Hulkenberg to Haas?

Antonio Giovinazzi is also a suitable candidate. The Italian lost his F1 seat with Alfa Romeo at the end of last year and hopes to get into the limelight at Haas through two free practice sessions in Italy and America. The Haas plan, however, would mainly be a favour to Ferrari, which wants Giovinazzi to get used to the new generation of F1 cars in order to be more valuable in the simulator.

According to AMuS, the favourite to fill the Haas seat is Hulkenberg. The German has not had a seat in F1 for three years, but has impressed (even this year) with his substitute Racing Point/Aston Martin driver roles. Hulkenberg would be a safe and cheap option for Haas. The question is whether the team would be wise to put Kevin Magnussen and Hulkenberg in the same room.
