Felipe Drugovich secured the 2022 Formula 2 title at Monza. The driver did so despite his early retirement, after which he was forced to watch the rest of the race from the pit wall.
Drugovich Formula 2 champion
Juri Vips won the sprint race, with Frederick Vesti and Jehan Daruvala in his wake. Like Drugovich, title rival Theo Pourchaire failed to score any points in the sprint race, and the 69-point lead was enough for Drugovich to seal the title. The Brazilian will have to postpone the party for a day, as there is still the main race on Sunday.
Given his early retirement, it was perhaps the least impressive race of the season for Drugovich, but that should not dampen the young talent's spirits. The Brazilian left a deep impression throughout the season and the big question now is what his next step will be. As the F2 champion, he will not be allowed to race in that class in 2023.
