Mercedes contract extension Hamilton realistic: 'Retirement far away'

Lewis Hamilton is still with Mercedes until 2023, but it is quite possible that the seven-time world champion will extend his contract with the German formation. Toto Wolff even seems to know for sure and therefore considers Hamilton's chances of an eighth title to be certainly realistic.
Wolff recently hinted that Hamilton has indicated to him that he can continue for another five years. The British driver feels fit and thinks he has it in him to beat the younger generation like Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc. Wolff shares that view.
"I am absolutely certain that Lewis can win the eighth world title with us," the Austrian top executive told PA News. Afraid that Hamilton will seek refuge with another team from motorsport's premier class, the Mercedes team boss is not. "He is not going to go elsewhere, and if we can provide a car that is competitive and he can fight for wins, he is going to win more titles. For him, retirement is still far away."
Alonso as an example
Wolff says he has no doubt that a contract extension will be forthcoming. Hamilton will be 38 years old after the expiry of his current contract, but he still has plenty of venom in him. "The science today can make sports people, if they are disciplined, go much longer than in the past. Look at Fernando Alonso. He is 41, and he is still mega so no doubt, there are many years left in Lewis," he concludes.
