Renault have signed Matthew Harman to work as their new deputy chief designer. Harman has worked for Mercedes in the role; head of powertrain integration.

Renault are currently pushing themselves towards the top three teams and having someone come in with the experience and knowledge of Matthew Harman will help that.

Harman, ex Mercedes employe, will start working for Renault on September 1st.

“Over the past three years, Bob Bell has been leading the charge for the team to reinforce its technical line-up,” said Cyril Abiteboul.

“We are delighted to have attracted someone of Matthew’s calibre to enable the team to anticipate on the design cycle of future cars, a crucial benefit, something we are currently missing since the team’s acquisition, and that will become even more important with the upcoming changes in 2021.”

Harman has been at Mercedes for 17 years. Renault have so far locked down the ‘best of the rest’ position as they’re currently fourth in the constructors' championship. It may also help attract and secure the likes of Red Bull for next season.
