Pierre Gasly will race for Alpine next season, the French formation announced at the weekend. The driver told Sky Sports in an interview that he is very happy with the challenge, although he does find it difficult to leave Red Bull Racing.

"A big change in my career," he stresses. "I am closing a 9-year chapter with Red Bull and starting a new chapter with Alpine which is incredible. Clear call, very attractive and it felt the right time to take my own career on my own and start this story."

Gasly expects good partnership with Ocon

In the past, Gasly and Esteban Ocon, with whom he will team up at Alpine in 2023, did not exactly have a nice relationship with each other. However, Gasly is convinced that both drivers know their jobs well and therefore expects a rock-solid team.

"It's a unique feeling to represent my country, my colours and values through another French team all the way around the world. There is a reason why they are competitive and building this team. They have everything needed to fight at the front. We both [Ocon] have matured a lot. We are both smart enough to know what's best for the team."
