Ricciardo expects better opportunities in 2024: 'Sights set on it'

Daniel Ricciardo will retire from Formula 1 for at least one year at the end of the season. The McLaren driver could not manage to find another team quickly and therefore decided to take a gap year. However, it does not mean he is putting the motorsport class out of his mind for good.
After two disappointing seasons, McLaren decided to buy out Ricciardo's contract and put Oscar Piastri in his place in 2023. However, the Australian driver was not yet ready to say goodbye to Formula 1 and immediately let it be known that he was open to a new challenge.
Ricciardo goes for new chance in 2024
The search was far from easy, however, as many teams were already anticipated for the new season. As a result, Ricciardo decided it was better to temporarily leave Formula 1 and go for his chance next season. Speaking to Sky Sports, he emphasised those words once again.
"I think that there could be some better opportunities in 2024," the former teammate of Max Verstappen told Sky Sports. "So that’s really what all this confirms and now where the sights are set. Certainly, the plan is still to be involved in F1."
Ricciardo is confident he has enough experience to be a good choice for teams after next season. "It’s kind of like just hitting pause for a little bit, as I see it – and let’s say as far as my F1 career goes the full intention is [to be driving] for ’24."
