Ferrari team boss: 'DRS Leclerc broke down at end of his run'
- GPblog.com
Mattia Binotto is bitter about the fifth and seventh places for Ferrari in qualifying, but the team boss seems to have seen it coming to some extent. He hopes Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz manage to make up a few places in the race on Sunday to perhaps move towards the podium.
"Charles had a problem with the DRS at the end. On his last fast lap, it broke down at the end of the run. We haven't seen the data yet," Binotto told Sky Italia. Interestingly, in his post-race interviews, we only heard Leclerc complain about engine problems and not the DRS. For his part, Binotto in turn does not hear about the engine problems.
The top Italian driver further stated, "Mexico is a difficult circuit to drive on. We knew it would be a qualifying that would be decided on the details. We had the potential to compete, but it is difficult for the drivers here and we were also a bit unlucky in Q3. Hopefully we will have a good race. The race will be less complicated, but close."
Tyre degradation Ferrari
However,Red Bull Racing and Mercedes seem to have been on the better side all weekend and so it will be difficult for Ferrari to really compete at the front. Indeed, while the RB18 and W13 are also good on tyres, the Maranello team's tyre degradation has always been higher in recent Sundays.
