Sergio Perez has done good business in the battle for the world championship. The Red Bull Racing driver was two points behind Charles Leclerc going into the Mexican Grand Prix, but thanks to his podium finish this Sunday, he has regained second place in the World Championship.
Perez picked up 15 points and not 16 as he saw the point for fastest race lap still snatched away by George Russell. Leclerc got no further than P6 and went home with eight points. As such, the Mexican is now five points ahead in the World Championship with two GPs to go in 2022.
Sainz vs Hamilton
Lewis Hamilton has passed Carlos Sainz in the drivers' championship. The seven-time world champion picked up 18 points, while Sainz managed to grab just eight. It means that with races in Brazil (also featuring a sprint race) and Abu Dhabi, we still have an exciting battle to follow closely here too.
Fernando Alonso will no doubt be frustrating with his elimination. He saw teammate Esteban Ocon run out in the World Championship and the DNF does Alpine no good in the battle for P4 with McLaren in the constructors' championship anyway.
