Wolff stands up for Hamilton: 'Alonso is a funny guy'

Fernando Alonso lashed out at Lewis Hamilton's world titles in the run-up to the Mexican Grand Prix. The Briton himself has already responded to his rival's comments, but Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff is now also giving his opinion on Alonso's remarks.
Speaking to De Telegraaf, Alonso suggested that Max Verstappen's world titles are worth more than Hamilton's because the Briton has only had to fight against his teammates (Nico Rosberg and Valtteri Bottas). Verstappen went up against Hamilton for his first world title in 2021. The Dutchman had to pull out all the stops to beat the Briton. In the end, the title fight only came to an end in the very last Grand Prix.
Wolff: 'Alonso is a funny guy'
Alonso returned to his statements on Twitter, saying he has a lot of respect for Hamilton and his success. According to the Spaniard, all world titles are inspirational. Team boss Wolff expresses his opinion on Alonso's statements. "He's a funny guy. He makes headlines, and this sport is built on headlines. They are both great world champions. Alonso enjoys that sort of thing, but I don't think it's bothering Lewis one millimetre", the Austrian is quoted by Express.
The seven-time world champion responded to Alonso's criticism on Twitter with a cryptic message. Hamilton posted a picture of the two rivals at the 2007 United States Grand Prix, where the Briton had beaten Alonso to victory. During the press conference in Mexico, Hamilton revealed that he had to giggle after reading the Spaniard's statements.
