Stuck: 'You're an idiot if you don't offer Schumacher a seat'
- GPblog.com
Mick Schumacher has received support from former Formula 1 driver Hans-Joachim Stuck. According to the German, the young driver belongs in the sport. Whoever does not offer Schumacher a contract is therefore an "idiot".
Schumacher is still without a seat for 2023. Haas is negotiating not only with the young German, but also with the experienced Nico Hulkenberg. According to Jack Plooij, the talks are said to be almost complete. There is a good chance we will get an announcement from Haas in the next week.
Stuck reveals to F1-Insider.com that he believes Schumacher deserves a seat in the sport. Audi will join the sport together with Sauber in 2026. The engine supplier is keen to have a German driver in the team, but for Schumacher, the news comes too soon. "If he is not in Formula 1 then [in 2026], he is gone. That also has to be said very clearly."
'Schumacher will become a great driver'
The former racing driver has a clear opinion. "For me, Mick belongs in Formula 1. He has proven that he is super good with the car and can drive hard. A young driver also has to throw a car away sometimes because he doesn't know where the limit is."
Guenther Steiner is therefore receiving criticism from the German. The Haas team boss has sometimes been hard on Schumacher because of his mediocre performance. According to Stuck, Steiner has made a mistake by criticising him so much and putting him under unnecessary pressure. "If someone has a seat and doesn't take Mick, he is an idiot! He will - once he is in the right car - become a great driver in the future!"
