While big teams like Red Bull Racing are struggling to stay under the budget ceiling, there are also Formula 1 teams that are not even going to reach that ceiling. Alfa Romeo is one of them: the team will keep money left over in 2022, but Valtteri Bottas has some ideas about where that money could go.

With the budget cap, F1 hopes to bring the teams closer together. As far as the top teams are concerned, the current limit is too low, but the smaller teams actually keep money. So it is definitely a good thing for them, but a gap remains.

"There's pros and cons," Bottas said during the press conference on Sky Sports. "It is a fact that we are not quite at the budget cap and we could do with some more cash. It's hard for me to calculate, I think we are still pushing to be P6."

If Alfa Romeo does indeed manage to finish sixth, that will bring in some extra money that the team will therefore still be allowed to spend. Bottas knows what to do with that bag of money: "We could take the money for development... and driver salaries," he concludes with a broad grin.
