Ferrari talks with Mick Schumacher about future
- GPblog.com
Mick Schumacher won't be on the F1 grid next season. Nevertheless, he does seem to have a future in Formula 1, as a test and reserve driver he could be working at Mercedes. Possibly, moreover, there could be another opening at Ferrari also.
Schumacher belonged to the Ferrari Academy for many years. Thanks to the Italian team's help, he also got a spot at Haas. So there he has to leave, as the Americans opt for Nico Hulkenberg. Ferrari also announced earlier that Schumacher would leave the Ferrari Academy. Mercedes could be the solution for Schumacher, as the new third driver.
At heart
Speaking at the team bosses' press conference in Abu Dhabi on Saturday morning, Toto Wolff told the media, including GPblog: "Mick is forever in our hearts because of Michael. He is an intelligent young man, very successful in junior categories. We think we could take good care of him, but we haven't signed a contract yet. I say it openly because I think he would fit. If he would want to, there is the possibility (to come to Mercedes)."
Even at Ferrari, there now seems to be an opening (after all), Binotto admitted at the press conference. "Mick has developed well, again this season," said the Ferrari boss. "We will sit down with Mick to decide what is best for him. We don't have a seat for him and for him when you are so young it is just right to have a seat. We will sit down and talk with him about that."
