Newey enthusiastic about new rules: 'Steep learning curve for all of us'

Adrian Newey looks back on this season with a good feeling. Not only did Red Bull Racing manage to win both championships, the team also had to work hard behind the scenes on the new car concept. The Austrian team's top man feels that this went well, he told Auto, Motor und Sport.
When the FIA came out with the news that Formula 1 teams would have to deal with a new car concept in early 2022, Newey said he was not immediately thrilled. The Briton was taken aback by the ideas and thus openly questioned at the time whether the motorsport class was choosing the right path.
Newey sees more excitement back
Since then, however, Newey has become convinced about the bolide. This season, he tried hard for Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez to put the best car on track, in which he succeeded over the course of the season. For next season, he expects to design another strong car.
"It's more exciting because the cars are so new," Newey reflected. "It's a steep learning curve for all of us. Last year's cars were the product of a long development process. The regulations had been in place for ages. And even though the rules were changed from time to time: everything worked according to the same principle."
