Helmut Marko is watching the current situation at Ferrari with interest. Mattia Binotto and the team have decided to end their collaboration at the end of the current calendar year, forcing the Italian formation to look for a successor. According to Marko, the team is likely to resolve this internally, he said in conversation with Sport1.de.

Binotto did an excellent job in Formula 1 in recent years. For instance, he managed to pull Ferrari out of a difficult period. At the start of this season, he even managed to fight for the lead in the world championship, but much of the racing year subsequently went disappointingly.

The Austrian does not think Ferrari will look to other teams after Binotto's departure. "I can well imagine Ferrari giving the job to one of their own," Marko reveals. "That's what BMW did when it promoted Mario Theissen, a top engineer from its own ranks, to team manager when it took over Sauber in 2006."

According to the German medium, three people at Ferrari are eligible for the role. Laurent Mekies, Jonathan Giacobazzi and Antonello Coletta are all said to be in the picture to become team boss, leaving it to wait and see who the team will choose for the time being.

Binotto was under pressure for longer

On Tuesday, it was already revealed that Christian Horner and Andreas Seidl were the dream candidates at Ferrari by the end of 2021. However, both men revealed that they had no appetite for a switch to the Italian formation. It ensured that Binotto was given another year's chance, but in it he could not convince.
