The awards honour the vital role played by the many volunteers during race events. The group of volunteers includes marshals, officials, and medical support staff who give their time free of charge. Some of them can count on an award from the FIA this year.
The award for Outstanding Official of the Year for 2022 went to Filiberto Loranca Marañón from Mexico, who started as a marshal when Formula 1 raced in the country between 1986 and 1992 and is still active today. He will receive his award at the FIA Gala in Bologna on Friday 9 December.
Abdulaziz Al Thawadi, president of FIA Volunteers and Officials, thanked all the volunteers for their tireless efforts. "These marshals and officials of all ages are the true stars of our sport. They give their time freely to ensure that events are efficiently run and that competitors and fans are safe," he said on the official website of the FIA.
