The Hungaroring has announced renovation plans ahead of the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix, which the circuit said was sold out in record time.
Hungaroring announces renovations
A number of outdated facilities at the circuit will be renovated first, according to CEO Zsolt Gyulay on the official website of the Hungaroring. This includes modernising the drinking water, fire water, and wastewater networks, developing the electricity networks, and building new ones.
This comes on top of the developments the track has already undergone in recent times. "We have worked continuously to meet the new safety requirements," explains Gyulay. For instance, fences have been built to catch debris and the track has been resurfaced, but the infrastructure is in need of renewal.
Now is the time to address visitor facilities, especially considering the state-of-the-art facilities offered by newer tracks. Gyulay fears that the work already carried out will not be enough to compete with new F1 circuits and therefore thinks the renovations are much needed. "It really is the last moment to start work," he stresses.
