Haas wants more equal performance: 'It took a lot of energy'

Haas will be the first team to unveil the livery of their new car on Tuesday. The car for the 2023 season is still some time away, likely to be presented during the winter tests in Bahrain. Then it will also become clear whether Haas has built a top performer or a flop.
After a dramatic 2021 and a reasonably successful 2022 (highlighted by Kevin Magnussen's pole in Brazil), Haas want to take the next step. Thus, the team management hopes that performance will fluctuate less. Last year, Haas were competitive one race, only to have problems in the next Grand Prix. “If you could have more equal [form], it would be better. But as long as you can have some highs, it’s good," team boss Günther Steiner told Autosport.
Haas no longer wants a rollercoaster
Looking back, the US team had a year full of highs and lows in 2022. “It takes a lot of energy out of you, the ups and downs, because you have got these highs where you are flying, and you’ve got these lows where you need to recover. So it’s very difficult. But in the end, it’s better having a rollercoaster than having just downs like 2021," explained Steiner, who has said goodbye to Mick Schumacher. The German has been replaced by his compatriot Nico Hulkenberg.
In Kevin Magnussen and Hulkenberg, Haas has a very experienced driver duo. Together they have competed in more than 300 Grands Prix. Steiner expects this bulk of experience to reduce the number of lows, although this is not just down to the drivers. He points out that steps also need to be taken within the team, such as structuring internal processes better.
