Vowles contradicts Newey: 'It's down to one's decision'

Top designer Adrian Newey has recently said that F1 team are losing staff members to other series and companies in recent years because of the wages on offer, talking to Auto, Motor und Sport. He also claimed that university graduates would also leave for the same reason. Williams team principal James Vowles doesn't agree with the Briton however, as he shared his thoughts in London.

Ahead of F1 75 event, Vowles explained why what Newey previously had said does not apply to his team: "It's down to you how you use the cost cap efficiently. You pay the individuals you want to have by your side a tremendous amount, and each team has very different models. What we have in ours is, I strongly believe in future generations, we invest good and sensible finance into graduates and the generations below that, and then training schemes that run through it," he began to GPblog among others.

'It's down to you,' says Vowles

The Briton stressed that with they way they approach the cost cap, he currently has no issues of attracting talented people. "The facts behind it are, that's down to you to decide on how you want to allocate it. I am still seeing some of the best CVs you could ever possibly ask for come through the door. So my definition of brain drain is at the point where that's not happening."

From experience, the Williams team principal could also share that he saw this issue being present in other fields. "I have the privilege and pleasure of meeting three or four other industries and doing talks with them over the winter. And they really do have a brain drain problem. They are struggling to attract talent. We're not. So I think at the moment it's just make sure you're optimizing your cost cap dollars in the right way," he concluded.
