Jabouille made his F1 debut in 1974 at Frank Williams Racing Cars, but failed to qualify. Later that year, an attempt at Surtees was also unsuccessful. In the following years, his F1 career took off after a move to Tyrell and then Renault.
With Renault, Jabouille managed to win two races, culminating in his home GP in France in 1979. In doing so, he became the first F1 driver to win a race in the turbo era. In 1980, he went on to win the GP of Austria.
Outside Formula 1, Jabouille competed 14 times in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, in which he managed to reach the podium four times. After retiring as an F1 driver, he spent several more years as team manager of Ligier and later went on to work as motorsport boss at Peugeot.
