Ferrari chief Benedetto Vigna has given new team boss Fred Vasseur a clear message. Quoted by Speedweek Vigna is clear: the world title is the only acceptable outcome.

After four disappointing seasons, Mattia Binotto left his post as Ferrari team boss at the end of 2022. Binotto reportedly no longer felt supported by Ferrari's corporate top brass, including Vigna. In 2022, Ferrari had everything it needed to win the title, but technical failures, driver errors, and questionable strategies saw the Italian racing stable see a wide lead slip through its fingers. In fact, Ferrari lost so much ground that Max Verstappen was able to set a new record for most wins in a single season, and Mercedes was closing in so fast that for a while it looked like even second place was out of the question for Ferrari.

'Fred knows what he has to do'

Vigna is now making it clear that this must not happen again. During an interview with shareholders, Vigna listed his goals, and there it became clear that Vasseur will have no room for error. "We proved last season that we can compete for podiums and victories. The goal now should obviously be not only to be able to take the lead in the World Cup, but also to hold it until the final. Of course, the world title should now be the goal. Team boss Fred Vasseur knows what he has to do."

In addition, Vigna made it clear that Ferrari does not only want to win the title in Formula 1. "We are continuing on the path in e-sports, with a stake in three championships: Formula 1, the World Endurance Championship and the GT Championship. We also want to be among the pioneers in the virtual world. This includes working in our simulation centre in Maranello, which is also used by the young drivers of the driver academy."
