Alexander Albon has reacted to the arrival of James Vowles as the new team boss at Williams. Following the unveiling of the new car for 2023, Albon told GPBlog and others how he envisions working with his new team boss.

In 2022, Albon returned to Formula 1 after spending a year on the sidelines at Red Bull. Team boss Jost Capito brought him to Williams, where Albon was doomed to struggle in the backfield. Williams has been unable to make much of an impression on the track for several years and has achieved nothing better than eighth place among constructors since 2018. Albon still managed to put in good performances and through bold strategies, Albon managed to get points in three different races and regularly finished near the top 10.

'Hopefully we can make good use of that'

In 2023, with a new teammate and a new team boss, Albon will make another attempt to make progress with Williams. Although Albon will miss his old team boss, he makes it clear he has high hopes of working with Vowles. "Obviously I like Jost [Capito] very much, we had a great relationship together, he was the person who brought me back into the sport. The experience James now brings hopefully can pull things forward and increase the evolution of the car. Let's see if we can make some short term progress of course, but also long term."

"It's nice to have that different point of view as he comes from a different team," Albon continued, referring to Vowles' previous role as chief strategist at Mercedes. "Mercedes having had so many so much success in the past and you can very much tell with James that he's had a lot of experience in all areas of the company at Mercedes, so hopefully we can put that to good use."
