Albon causes red flag in Australia Grand Prix
- GPblog.com
Alexander Albon crashes during the race of the Australian GP. The red flag that followed his crash changed standings again. In this situation, as always, there are winners and losers.
Red flag by Albon
Out of nowhere, Albon lost his car and hit the wall, beaching his car in the gravel. A safety car came first, as his Williams was in the middle of the track. That safety car turned into a red flag. The tyre pile-up had to be repaired and gravel moved off the track.
Because of the red flag, every driver gets the chance to change tyres for free, with no time lost. Nyck de Vries and Pierre Gasly were the biggest winners. During the safety car on lap one, they did not go in for new tyres, gaining track position. From P15, De Vries is now on P12. Gasly went from P9 to P5.
