A crazy GP of Australia has been won by Max Verstappen, Fernando Alonso got away well after a crash after the race's third start. The Aston Martin driver managed to get his car in one piece and was able to get back on the grid and finish third due to the atypical conditions. The Spaniard reacts to his third P3 in a row in 2023.
Alonso fights through bad luck and luck of red flags
Alonso was driven out of the race on the second restart by Carlos Sainz, or at least it seemed so. The car remained in one piece and the final red flag saved the Spaniard's podium. Alonso describes the race as a rollercoaster. At the podium interview, he says: "Many things at the beginning and also at the end. Hard to understand what was going on. The race was good for us in terms of pace. Mercedes was very fast and Lewis did an incredible job today. I couldn't match that pace."
Alonso fought his way through all the red flags and is aware that he was very lucky and things could easily have ended differently. Alonso: " P3 and P4 for the team is just amazing. I can get higher on the podium [in the future]. Three times third place, let's go for a second."
