Max Verstappen became the 'GPblog Driver of the Day' in Australia after a superb drive, earning 31 per cent of the votes. The Red Bull Racing driver remained calm after losing two positions at the start, and then drove expertly to victory, with very few errors and problems. That makes him the best driver of Sunday's race at the Albert Park Circuit, according to GPblog readers.

Sergio Perez came behind his teammate with 26 per cent of the vote. The Mexican, who started the race from the pitlane, put together a well-structured recovery drive, as he was able to move the RB19 up the field, finishing in fifth place at the end of the race.

Lewis Hamilton then came third in the vote with 15 per cent of the votes, with the British driver having his most successful weekend of the season so far. after qualifying in P3 on Saturday, he finished P2 on Sunday after managing the tyres very well all race and was able to pick up good points for Mercedes and himself.

Globally, Verstappen was not even in the top-five list of Formula 1's official election. Perez and Hamilton were, but Pierre Gasly, Lando Norris and also Carlos Sainz all received more votes than the Red Bull Racing driver from fans around the world.

It should be noted, however, that many votes had already been distributed before the final restart of the race. Drivers like Gasly and Sainz seem to have benefited from this, but they caused two more collisions on the second restart, causing them to tumble down the order.
