Hamilton, the most successful F1 driver ever, writes history again
- GPblog.com
Lewis Hamilton is the most successful Formula 1 driver of all time. The Briton is a seven-time world champion, won 103 Grands Prix and was on pole position just as often. Moreover, Hamilton managed to capture 192 podium positions. With these figures, the Mercedes driver has anchored his name in the history books.
Thanks to his podium finish in Australia, Hamilton is once again making history. It was the 17th season in a row that he managed to finish in the top three at least once. In doing so, he passed the equally legendary Michael Schumacher, who was successful in the past for Benetton, Ferrari and Mercedes.
Waiting for victory
Hamilton has been waiting for another Grand Prix victory for some time. He last won in Saudi Arabia in 2021. As is well known, he squandered the win and thus the title after a late overtaking move by Max Verstappen during the closing race in Abu Dhabi. Last season, Hamilton could not win, something his teammate George Russell managed to do. He was the strongest in Brazil.
Mercedes started the current season behind Red Bull Racing and also Aston Martin. In Melbourne, the team appeared to have made a big step forward and Hamilton even finished second ahead of Fernando Alonso.
