Ricciardo holds out hope for comeback in F1: 'Coming back with a goal'
- GPblog.com
Daniel Ricciardo returned to Red Bull Racing this winter as a reserve driver. The Australian failed to find a seat for the 2023 season after his contract was bought out by his previous team McLaren. Last weekend, he was back at a Grand Prix for the first time, in his home country of Australia.
Ricciardo does not rule out return
The switch from Renault to McLaren in 2021 did not turn out to be what was expected. Despite a win at the 2021 Italian Grand Prix, the 'Honey Badger' failed to make much of an impression. He was replaced by fellow Australian Oscar Piastri.
Now he is back with his old team as a reserve driver, but we might see him back on the track next year. Ricciardo himself has yet to decide what he will do next year, but he is leaning towards a regular spot on the grid, telling Speedcafe.com, among others: “Just trying to get that balance and kind of get that fix this year, and ultimately just recharge, if I am to come back next year, just to feel like I’m coming in with a lot of intensity and a lot of purpose.”
So for now, the former teammate of Max Verstappen and Lando Norris, among others, does not yet have a seat for next season, but who knows, maybe we will see him back next year.
