Honda still empty-handed: 'Two options remain'
- GPblog.com
Honda is seeing more and more options to partner with fall away and will have to provide a partner. Honda has signed up as an engine supplier for Formula 1. The Japanese carmaker will be one of six suppliers in 2026. Together with Alpine, Audi, Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull Ford will provide the constructors' engines.
After Red Bull teamed up with Ford, few options remain, as collaboration with factory teams like Mercedes, Ferrari and Alpine is simply not possible either, as they supply the engines themselves. Haas currently has close ties with Ferrari and taking over AlphaTauri was not feasible.
Aston Martin and McLaren
Spanish medium SoyMotor reports that there are really only two options left for Honda: Aston Martin and McLaren. The Japanese brand is considering a partnership with one of these two British constructors. The final decision will be made in June.
As we know, Honda has a history with McLaren. The partnership between 2015 and 2017 did not go well, so whether McLaren will make this move again remains to be seen. Aston Martin seems to be the best option. The British team and Honda are not rivals in any market, so this will not cause commercial problems.
