Former Aston Martin strategic engineer: 'Vettel was quite relaxed'
- Cas van de Kleut
Sebastian Vettel quit his Formula One career after the 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The German managed to make an indelible impression on fans during his career, but he was also loved by his colleagues.
'There was little pressure'
In his career, Vettel started an F1 race 299 times, of which he managed to win 53. During a dominant period for Red Bull racing, in which the German became world champion four times, he was somewhat less loved by fans. Later in his career, however, many people became fans of him.
Meanwhile, the four-time world champion has been sidelined for a few months, but he has certainly not been forgotten. During a Q&A with former Aston Martin strategic engineer Bernie Collins on Sky Sports F1's YouTube channel, the Irish strategist talks about the period when they worked with Vettel: "I think he was quite relaxed. I think the car wasn't as good as we would've hoped through that time. It was more of a learning process across us. What we could improve and other aspects.
"It wasn't necessarily the pressure of we're going to try and get a podium every week because we weren't in that position. I think he's been there and done that so I felt like the pressure was off a little bit," Collins concluded.
