Vasseur clear: 'Leclerc wants to be world champion with Ferrari'

Ferrari is having a disappointing start to the season. The Scuderia has only tallied 26 points and its speed does not yet seem to be up to Red Bull Racing's level either. Charles Leclerc, meanwhile, has been driving his fifth season for Ferrari but has yet to get a car to fight for the championship. Despite that, Frederic Vasseur says the Monegasque is staying with Ferrari.
Leclerc signed a mega deal at Ferrari with a contract until 2024. That seemed a long way off when the Monegasque signed, but 2024 is starting to get pretty close anyway. Due to Ferrari's disappointing performance, there are a lot of rumours that Leclerc wants to leave his team.
Vasseur on Leclerc rumours
Ferrari team boss Vasseur contradicts all rumours, stating that the Monegasque will "just" stay with the Scuderia. "I'm confident in that for sure, you don't have to be focused on the last two races. We want to build up something with our drivers. I always said that drivers are key in a project and that you have to build up the team around them. And it's what we are doing today," said the team boss at the press conference in Baku.
Leclerc not going to Mercedes
Most rumours say Leclerc would leave his team for Mercedes. Vasseur wants to know nothing about these rumours. "I'm not sure about what you said about Mercedes. Charles confirmed yesterday that he's committed to the project and that he wants to be world champion with Ferrari."
