Nyck de Vries caused a stir at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix by parking his AlphaTauri alongside the track, triggering a safety car. This ended an already unfortunate weekend for the Dutchman.
Disappointment for De Vries in Baku
On the tenth lap of the Formula 1 race in Baku, De Vries shot straight ahead in turn five, hitting the wall and breaking his suspension. This forced him to leave his AT04 alongside the track, triggering a safety car.
Speaking to Viaplay, De Vries cannot help but acknowledge his mistake. "Perhaps impatience behind Zhou, I was a bit stuck there. But that doesn't make it right, I still made the mistake and that shouldn't happen," said the 28-year-old Dutchman.
When asked if one can speak of a dramatic weekend for the AlphaTauri driver, a clear answer follows: "Yes, of course it's not what we had hoped for, but lingering too long in this makes little sense. Fortunately, we have a new race next week. New round, new chances," said De Vries.
