All grip washed away after heavy rain in Miami, chance of rain remains
- GPblog.com
On Saturday night, heavy rain washed away all grip from the Miami circuit. The drivers will therefore have to be wary at the start and also have to reckon with a small chance of more rain during the race.
Heavy rain on Miami circuit
The lack of grip has been a problem all weekend for Formula 1 drivers, who will start again on Sunday with a completely 'green' track due to heavy rain on Saturday night. Moreover, there is a slight chance of rain and even thunderstorms during the Miami Grand Prix.
However, it just depends on where you look at the weather report. For example, Accuweather.com reports a 51 per cent chance of rain and thunderstorms an hour and a half before the start, but according to Weather.com and local broadcaster Local10, the chance of rain is only 20 per cent. However, Weather.com does report a 38 per cent chance of rain at 16:00 local time, half an hour after the race start.
Regardless of the weather conditions, it promises to be an interesting race. Due to the late red flag in qualifying, caused by Charles Leclerc's crash, there is an unusual starting line-up. Thus, Max Verstappen has to come from P9 while Carlos Sainz, Kevin Magnussen and Pierre Gasly had their best qualifying of the year.
