De Vries: 'Hopefully we can benefit from other people's mistakes in Miami'

Nyck de Vries looks back on his qualifying in Miami with satisfaction, in which he managed to reach Q2 for the first time this year. As for the race, the Dutchman realises that he may have to rely on others' mistakes to move further forward.
"Of course, we always want more but looking at FP1 and FP2, we as a team are satisfied and happy with the performance gains we made. We found ourselves on the backfoot, but the progress we made overnight helped us reach Q2 for the first time, which is a great accomplishment for us," said De Vries in an AlphaTauri press release.
De Vries hopes for clean race
Asked by Viaplay 'why things came his way this time' after a difficult start to his debut season in F1, De Vries replies, "I don't think you should see it that way. It's just a confluence of circumstances, and if you keep believing in it and doing your job long enough, it will come naturally. It's early in the year, so I just have to quietly bide my time."
The AlphaTauri driver further looked ahead to the Miami Grand Prix, which he expected to be "a long race". "We will do our best. I hope something happens up front and that we have a clean race, and so maybe we can benefit a bit from other people's mistakes," De Vries said.
