Sergio Perez is doing better than ever in his RB19. Max Verstappen 's teammate has already won two races this season and was just six points behind, prior to the Miami Grand Prix. In Florida, however, the Dutchman was superior. How does Verstappen view the current title battle between the two Red Bull drivers?
Speaking to the BBC, the two-time world champion says he was surprised by the speed difference he had with the rest of the field. "I personally thought that P2 was definitely possible. But I did not expect to have this pace advantage," he said. The race winner was delighted with the material he got from his team. "We definitely had a good car, were good on the tyres and I felt comfortable in the car. I think that really made my race.”
Was it a statement from Verstappen to Perez?
Where Verstappen started from P9, teammate Sergio Perez drove away from pole. With a true display of power, the Dutchman drove quickly towards his teammate. There has been constant talk in recent weeks about a possible title battle between the two Red Bull drivers. In his eyes, has Verstappen made a statement to Perez? "It’s very early on, but if I keep doing what I am doing, we will be fine.”
Perez is known to be the 'King of the streets'. After street races in Jeddah, Australia, Baku and Miami, the Mexican is only fourteen points behind. With traditional circuits coming up, Verstappen will have an opportunity to extend his lead.
