Sergio Perez 's father sees a rivalry developing between his son and Red Bull Racing teammate Max Verstappen that reminds him of the illustrious rivalry between Formula One legends Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost. According to Perez sr, the two drivers are almost identical in their approach to racing.
According to Antonio Perez Garibay, both his son and Verstappen have reached such a high level that it reminds him of the legendary rivalry of Prost and Senna. They too were responsible for great successes together at McLaren, but it was no secret that the two could not like each other.
Perez sr. sees legendary rivalry developing with Verstappen
"Think back to the time of Senna and Prost at McLaren. This is the same thing, today we are reliving it," Perez began in conversation with Mexican Esto.com. He sees little difference in the approach of the two Red Bull drivers. "They think the same, they eat the same. One time Max sets the fastest lap, then Checo. In qualifying they want pole position, but also in practice they want to be number one."
Despite Verstappen's two championships, Perez feels his son is on par with the Dutchman. "You have to remember how long Max had been with the team, he was way ahead of him. Checo can now keep up with Max's pace. I still feel that between Max and Checo there are a few thousandths in Max's favour, and on the difficult circuits they are matched," reads father Perez's conclusion.
