Button positive: 'Will see Williams further up front in a few years'
Jenson Button is currently an ambassador for the Williams Racing brand and thinks his team will be in a very different place in Formula 1's rankings in a few years' time. The Briton also praises his team's new team boss.
Williams has been struggling in Formula 1 for several years, only managing to score points occasionally. In 2020, Williams did not even manage to score a single point, but these days the team is fighting at the back of the midfield in F1. Since this year, James Vowles has been the new team boss of the British team and he is expected to push the team even further forward.
Button on Williams
Button has been with Williams since 2021 and sees that the team has already made progress in recent years, but argues that it will take a lot of time to move even further forward in the F1 field. "It’s a funny time in F1 at the moment because we have the budget cap and you immediately think the smaller teams should be there with the top teams, but it takes time," Button said in a Williams press release.
"I think over the next couple of years, you’ll see a difference with the running order of the F1 grid. I think you’ll see teams like Williams closer to the front. I’m not going to put a time on it, but we’ll see a lot of progress over the next two years.I think that there’s a true belief within the team that Williams Racing will succeed now, which makes a big difference," Button continued.
Button happy with Vowles
Vowles has moved from head of strategy at Mercedes to team boss at Williams. Button is very complimentary of his employer's new team boss. "I’m really happy James joined Williams Racing. He’s a great guy, he’s a hard worker and he has self-confidence, which is something you really need in his role in a team."
